Abandoned Tarantula Hangs Out In City Park Until Help Arrives

His rescuers gave him the name Blossom.

Last Friday, while some Chicago residents were taking a stroll through a nearby park, they unexpectedly noticed what appeared to be a very, very enormous spider crawling all over the place. They moved closer to have a look and discovered it to be a sizable tarantula.

The poor little tarantula was probably abandoned because he appeared equally perplexed to be crawling about the park as the people did to see him there. The Good Samaritans immediately got in touch with GoodVets Streeterville out of concern for his welfare, and the clinic agreed to take him in.

To the relief of his rescuers, the tarantula was recognized as a pink-toed tarantula after a thorough examination and appeared to be in excellent health. He seemed unfazed by his ordeal and willingly let his new pals handle and examine him. Everyone was perplexed as to how someone could discard such a cute little creature because tarantulas don’t just appear in Chicago parks on their own.

The veterinary team initially assumed the tarantula was a girl, about 2 years old, based on his size and shape, and they named him Blossom.

Blossom was calm and easy to manage, according to Dr. Sabrina Kuo, CEO of GoodVets, who spoke to The Dodo. He was cheerfully posing for our photographs and appeared to have some personality.

In order to foster Blossom until they can find him a beautiful forever home, one of the veterinary assistants took him home. This individual has vast experience caring for tarantulas. The veterinary assistant didn’t know Blossom was a boy until he was already in his foster home and comfortable.

Blossom is flourishing and adoring his new habitat, according to Kuo. “Our staff member made a very intriguing discovery when the spider was very busy building a silk nest in his new home. Blossom’s mating hooks were discovered throughout this operation, proving that he is in fact a male!

Blossom appears to be having a blast in his foster home, regardless of his gender, and is probably overjoyed to be protected and cared for once more after being abandoned. He was found by the proper folks, which is fortunate, so perhaps soon he will have the best new forever family.
