The Connecticut State Police celebrated Izzy’s great work after she tracked and found a missing child in Woodbury.

Izzy the police dog is getting extra back pats and ear scratches for doing such a great job.

On Sunday, the Connecticut State Police received an emergency call about a 10-year-old girl who went missing in Woodbury. The state troopers responded with Izzy and her handler to help find the child quickly.

After arriving at the missing girl’s residence, the dog was given an object of hers so that it could pick up on the child’s scent. After receiving the scent, Izzy led her handler on a 1.63 track through the wooded area near the girl’s home, which resulted in the pair finding the missing child.

A child was found near a nature center by Izzy. The girl was found unharmed and safely returned to her family thanks to the quick work of the canine.

“On 12/12/21 at approximately 1408 hours, TFC Matthew and K9 Izzy were dispatched to the area of White Deer Rocks Rd in the Town of Woodbury for a report of a missing 10-year-old female. After a 1.63 mile track, K9 Izzy successfully located the female youth in the area of the Whittemore Sanctuary in Woodbury. Great work to Izzy and her handler!” the Connecticut State Police’s Troop L Litchfield posted on FB after the rescue.

One of the many dogs who have recently been helping authorities find missing people is Izzy. She has helped South Dakota’s Pennington County Sheriff’s Office find a teen in three hours, which is a big improvement over the average search time for such cases.
