Dying Dog Attends Owners Wedding, One Of His Final Acts Of Love

Charlie, a 15-year old black lab, was dying of a brain tumor but that didn’t stop him from being in the wedding of his owner Kelly O’Connell.

When Kelly married James, she knew that “Charlie” would be part of the wedding. Kelly knew she wanted Charlie by her side at the wedding, so he tried walking down the aisle with her but failed because of his weakened state. Kelly’s small sister, 5’3″ Kelly Lloyd, and Maid of Honor, came to the rescue by carrying the 80-pound dog up the altar.

Charlie had his heart set on being next to Kelly during the wedding ceremony, so he rest on the grass near his owner. Kelly told ABC News:

“Both of us just dropped to our knees and started crying.  To see him be carried a few feet, it kind of solidified for me that it’s not the Charlie he liked to be. He was aging, and it hit me knowing that he lost a lot.”

Everyone loved Charlie, but Kelly was the person he cared about most. As time went on, the old age caught up to him and that’s when his health started to decline. A few days after a wedding ceremony with Kelly by his side, Charlie passed away peacefully and crossed over into Rainbow Bridge–the place where dogs go once they’re gone too!

Kelly and James, along with their friend and photographer, Jen Dziuvenis, share many wonderful memories of Charlie. As well as some special wedding photos that they took of Charlie . Dziuvenis wrote on FB:

“When your beloved dog who is at the end of his life can’t make it back up the aisle and your sister scoops him up and carries him …. THAT is love,” Dziuvenis wrote on FB. “There isn’t enough mascara in the world for these moments. Dog people are the best people.”

Perhaps Charlie felt like he wanted to be there for Kelly on her wedding day, or perhaps he was simply too sick to continue. However, there is no doubt that dogs love us until their last breath and that is one of the things that makes them so special.

The love between man and animal is something we should all aspire to have as well. It is undeniable that dogs love us. They’ve always been there for us and will be until their last breath.

This, in addition to what makes them so special, includes the fact that they are loyal and comforting companions who don’t judge or make decisions for you-they just trust you without hesitation. Dogs show us unconditional love even when it hurts them just as much or more than it does for us humans!
