Family Is So Eager To Save Stray Cat That They Build Him His Own House

Gerrie and Loki enjoy playing and lounging in their expansive catio while observing the world outside. A new cat approached the catio one day to say hello. The parents of the cats assumed he was a neighborhood cat and didn’t give it much thought until he returned and a neighbor informed them that he was a stray who had lived in the region for years.

Upon hearing this, they instantly gave him the moniker Ziggy and began efforts to win him over.

Ziggy began to visit twice a day for food, but was initially terrified of being touched. His new friends desired for him to feel secure whenever he visited, so they decided to construct him a small house. They determined that if he remained aloof as the colder months came, he would have a warm place to stay, and they began feeding him there to acclimate him.

Ziggy appreciated the house and began warming up to the couple very, very slowly, but it was evident he had a long way to go.

“After a few weeks of feeding, I was finally able to touch him as he was eating,” Renee, the mother of the kitties (who requested that her last name not be used), told The Dodo. However, after he finished eating, he did not want to be touched.

The couple was still deciding what to do about Ziggy — whether they should continue feeding him outside until he was more comfortable or try to bring him inside — when they discovered him curled up in his tiny hut, injured and in need of assistance. They hurriedly rushed him to the veterinarian, obtained the necessary surgery for him, and then brought him home.

“We kept him in a separate room for a few days after his surgery,” Renee explained. “After a few days, we reintroduced him to Gerrie and Loki. They got along so well that we decided to keep Ziggy with us.”

The couple constructed a little outdoor house for Ziggy so that he would have his own safe zone, but in the end, he found safety and comfort in the shape of a new permanent family in their home.

It took some time, but Ziggy is now entirely acclimated to his new home and thoroughly enjoying life. It appears that when his new parents helped him recover and took such good care of him, he concluded they weren’t that frightening after all. His favorite pastimes now include lounging close to the warm dishwasher and stretching out beside the window. He still enjoys spending time outdoors with his new siblings, but rather than having his own small house, he now shares a large catio with Gerrie and Loki.

The three cats now enjoy spending time together, watching the world go by and keeping an eye out for other stray cats in need of a home.
