Flight attendants break protocol to save dog’s life in the middle of flight

It is certain that dogs are our angels. There are so many stories about how their heroic actions have saved lives. Nevertheless, even an angel can find herself in need of help. But when this tiny pup found herself in need of help, two flight attendants stepped up and helped save her life.

When Michele Burt, her husband Steven, and their three dogs went on a plane ride to Massachusetts from Florida – it was supposed to be a routine trip since they have done this many times before. They followed the protocols by putting their dogs into carriers under their seats. Then soon after take off, Michele noticed that her French bulldog, Darcy was struggling to breathe. Her husband Steven immediately called for assistance from the flight crew.

Worried, Michele opens the door to check on her. She is aware that she is acting against the flight company’s protocol, but risking Darcy’s life was worth it!

“I noticed that her tongue was blue, and I am aware that is a sign of insufficient oxygen”, the woman later explained. “I pulled her out from under the seat and placed her on my lap to cool down and help her relax as she was panicking and breathing frantically.”

Flight attendant Renaud Fenster, had no idea what was going on. So he asked Michele to put her dog in the hold back before anything bad happens. However, it soon turned out that she might be having a medical emergency and so he rushed over to help but not before alerting his colleague Diane Asher about what was happening.

At first, the two crew members tried to cool Darcy down with ice bags, but they weren’t effective. Then, Renaud – who also owns a French bulldog – came up with a creative solution. However, it went against the protocol. Nonetheless, he was willing to take the risk, in order to save the dog’s life.

“He [Renaud] brought a small oxygen tank with a mask attached and offered it saying, ‘Maybe this will help,’” Michelle said. ““I believe Renaud and Diane saved a life, some may reduce the value of life because Darcy is a canine — I do not.”

The two flight attendants saved Darcy’s life, even though that meant they had to act against the rules. After she fully recovered, Michele decided to write a letter of thanks. “I wanted to say thank you JetBlue and thank you Renaud and Diane for doing their job as well as being great humans!”.

When JetBlue found out about the situation, they couldn’t have been prouder. The company even praised the two women for their actions! “Our mission is to inspire humanity, and we’re very proud of those outstanding crew members who consistently demonstrate a passion for excellent customer service,” JetBlue wrote in a statement.
