These cute brothers are ligers—hybrids of lions and tigers. Ligers are a very rare species. There are only about 1,000 of them worldwide, and the majority of them live in captivity.

Yeti, Odlin, Sampson, and Apolo are all exceedingly rare ligers. They are considered the world’s first white ligers!

Ivory, a white lion, and Saraswati, a white tiger, are the brothers’ parents. White lions and tigers are almost as scarce as ligers—only 1,200 white tigers and 300 white lions exist worldwide.

Ivory, Saraswati, and their cubs reside at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina’s T.I.G.E.R. Sanctuary.

This refuge has previously successfully bred ligers. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, one of their ligers, Hercules, is the world’s largest cat. Hercules weighs 922 pounds, yet despite his size, he is a gentle giant who enjoys playing with his handlers and new nephews.

Hercules’ nephews may be small now, but they will soon grow to be as large as their uncle.

Yeti, Odlin, Sampson, and Apolo are gaining approximately one pound every day. Dr. Antle, the sanctuary’s founder, is astounded by the cubs’ progress. He explained to the Daily Mail:

“I miss a day and they appear to have doubled in size. It’s as though they’re being inflated with a tire pump.”

Like tigers, liger cubs enjoy swimming and are gregarious like lions. Additionally, they have their own distinct personality qualities. Apollo is the tiniest of the four and also the most house cat-like. The small creature adores cuddling up with his caretakers and being petted.

Yeti is the most outspoken of the four, and he is constantly seeking the limelight. He is also the largest of the four cats—Dr. Antle believes he may eventually surpass his uncle Hercules in size.

Dr. Antle predicts that by the time the four cats reach the age of two, they will be at least ten feet tall and weigh approximately 750 pounds. It’s difficult to fathom how these tiny creatures grow to that size!
