They were too small to ascend out by themselves.
One day while out and about, a citizen of Anson County, North Carolina, noticed a green bin sitting by itself near the edge of some woods. They approached to have a look inside out of curiosity and were startled to see five little puppies.
It was clear that someone had brutally abandoned the puppies since they were too tiny and frail to climb out of the trash can on their own. They wouldn’t have survived if they had been left alone much longer because they were all entirely confined within the garbage and sweltering in the 90 degree heat.
All of the puppies were soon placed inside a crate along with some much-needed food and water by the Good Samaritan. They were soon moved to the care of the Columbia, South Carolina, veterinarian partner of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC.
They had a ‘strange scent’ and were frail and dehydrated, according to Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, who spoke to The Dodo. “We feared parvo because one wasn’t doing well, but so far all five are doing fine after receiving drinks, showers, and a healthy diet.”
The puppies, who had names like Sullivan, Snoopy, Sanders, Simon, and Sassafras, were estimated to be roughly 6 weeks old. The puppies are doing well and starting to grow after receiving vaccinations, deworming, medication, and lots of fluids, and everyone at the rescue is incredibly grateful to the wonderful person who saved their lives.
They were fortunate to be discovered in time, according to O’Sullivan.
Although it will be some time before the puppies are available for adoption, folks are invited to begin making adoption requests now. As soon as they are well enough, they will be allowed to leave and find their loving forever homes, where they won’t ever have to worry about being neglected again. They are now receiving the best care.
