‘Puppy’ Found In Backyard Is Saved Once — But Now He Needs Help Again

Help us bring him to a secure location!

It all began with the best of intentions.

A man noticed a little brown fur ball in his front yard in February when he glanced out into it.

An animal rescue and advocacy group called Four Paws International stated in a press release that the man initially believed he had discovered a puppy.

However, there was a strange quality about this said dog. His claws appeared a little too sharp, and he didn’t quite make the correct noises.

A closer look revealed that the animal was a brown bear, Four Paws wrote.

According to what they claimed, the authorities were in route to return the bear cub to the forest and reunite him with his mother.

But then something unexpected happened.

FOUR PAWS

Although it is against the law to keep bears as pets, the rangers of Kosovo’s Sharr Mountains National Park, where the cub’s mother resides, decided to keep the cub in a basement.

According to a report from Four Paws this week, “the cub is still being kept by the national park management in the basement of a restaurant that belongs to a ranger.” The cub “seldom sees daylight and has little opportunity to move.”

Even undercover video shot by a Four Paws member reveals the bear cub’s confinement in a wooden container in a pitch-black cellar.

A neighboring bear sanctuary would be the ideal place for the displaced cub to go; there, he could grow up in safety and among other bears. However, the administration is currently refusing to release the cub.

FOUR PAWS

The government’s disregard for its own regulations is surprising, according to Carsten Hertwig, a bear specialist with Four Paws.

Every second that goes by without this baby bear receiving the care he requires is a moment lost, which is why Four Paws is urging people to speak up in his defense.

“We have started a global protest,” Hertwig declared. “It’s one day too many for the bear to have to stay in the dank, gloomy basement.”
