Literally, “nobody would touch the situation.”
Last month, a New York resident heard an odd noise emanating from their roof as twilight was falling.
A small bird was entangled in the electrical cable leading to the house and was flapping frantically to get free.
The owner was aware that it would be difficult to locate someone who would be ready to assist the bird while dealing with the hazardous live electrical wires. Then they recalled Strong Island Animal Rescue League’s seasoned local animal rescuer Frankie Floridia.
Because there was power running through those lines, nobody wanted to come get the bird out, according to Floridia, who spoke to The Dodo. Literally, “nobody would touch the situation.”
Given his concern that the bird wouldn’t be able to stay on for much longer, Floridia was eager to begin the rescue.
Floridia remarked, “I felt the bird would be too anxious and would not survive the night. “I had to move quickly.”
After gently starting to untangle the bird, Floridia scaled a ladder, making cautious to only touch the wires that the bird was touching.
The young starling was released shortly after and sank into Floridia’s palm for protection.
Here is a video of the rescue from Strong Island Animal Rescue League:
Floridia took the bird to Sweetbriar Nature Center after she had been saved, where she received the necessary attention and started the recovery process. The bird will be carefully released into the wild when she is strong enough.
This small bird will soon return to the skies because of Floridia’s quick thinking.
