Rescuers Save Little Animal Found All Alone Clinging To Pole

As night fell in Melbourne, Australia, a young brushtail possum clung to a cold metal pole because it didn’t know what to do. The little possum was frozen with fear near a dumpster at a grocery store because his mother was nowhere to be seen.

But he didn’t have to feel alone for long. Trained animal rescuers from Warriors 4 Wildlife were on their way.

A representative from Warriors 4 Wildlife told The Dodo, “Unfortunately, it is common to find possums in all kinds of strange places.”

The possum’s rescuers put him in a cloth pouch and hung it close by. They hoped they could find his mother and bring him back to her. Rescuers often use pouches to make baby possums feel safer, like their mothers are holding them.

After waiting for two nights, rescuers had to come to the sad realization that this possum’s mother wasn’t going to come back. As they tried to figure out where to take him, they got to know his sweet nature.

“He was very cheeky and odd, and he liked to eat his food upside down,” a representative from Warriors 4 Wildlife said.

The people who saved the possum gave it everything it needed to get better at a wildlife care center.

The possum will be set free after being cared for for about two months. Because kind people took the time to help him, this possum will be able to do well when he goes back to his natural home.
