During Sundae’s life, all she knew was a garbage-filled backyard and a cold garage.
Rescued by the Country Roads Animal Rescue Association from a dog captivity in Oklahoma City, the coonhound/Labrador retriever mix gave birth to a litter of puppies that never stepped foot in the house.
That is until her adoptive mother showed her what it means to have a warm bed. As soon as Sundae lay down to rest, her expression was relieved immediately.
Sundae knew that she was safe.
“We’ve had him for about a week, and you’ll never know he’s never been an indoor dog before,” Sundae’s adoptive mother, who goes by the username Mugglequeen, wrote on Reddit. “She is completely potty trained, extremely gentle, and she is very polite around the house.”
Mugglequeen named Sundae because it seemed to match her sweetness and the beautiful chocolate, vanilla, and caramel colors on her face. At first, Sundae is wary of men, but after her adoptive mother leaves a pair of her boyfriend’s shorts on the bed – Sundae’s favorite place – she begins to resent him.
Now, Sundae is the most affectionate girl, cuddling her adoptive mother whenever possible. “She likes to sleep as close to me as possible in bed,” Mugglequeen wrote. “I think she’s just making up for eight-ish years of no affection.”
After a long time without medical care, Sundae is finally getting the treatment she deserves. The vet found her positive for heartworm and needed some dental work, but otherwise, she was in good health. All of her puppies are being cared for by other foster families, and Sundae is now waiting for a suitable family to come along and love her.
“Her perfect family will have a very relaxed lifestyle and a lot of patience to help her continue to come out of her shell and gain confidence,” Mugglequeen said. “She will stay with me until her perfect forever family comes along!”
Hopefully, it won’t take too long for someone to add this adorable mama dog to their family and gain a close friend for life.
