Woman Drives Dog 1,300 Miles Home To Find Owner No Longer Wants Her

I cherish her more than words can express.

Pit bull mix pup Blue’s precise route from Florida to Michigan is unknown.

In March, the dog was taken in by the Humane Society of Midland County in central Michigan. When staff members discovered she had a microchip after being found as a stray, they were thrilled.

They dialed the number associated with the chip. A Florida woman responded. Her dog had been gone for a week, she informed them. She wanted Blue back despite not knowing how she had crossed the nation.

The announcement that Blue and her owner had been reunited filled the office with joy. They put out a call on social media for a driver to take the 1-year-old puppy to Florida. Even the neighborhood media picked up on their request for a driver.

Logan Smith, an animal care technician with the Humane Society of Midland County, told The Dodo, “We got a ton of replies from people volunteering to help. “The neighborhood came together in full. It was incredible.

Stephanie James, a Michigan citizen, was chosen as the chauffeur among the many applicants.

James told The Dodo that the dog needed to return home. I enjoy driving and I adore Florida, so I reasoned, “You know, why not?”

James drove to the shelter to pick up Blue while taking time off from work to pick up her brother and fill up her gas tank. I exclaimed, “Oh my my, you’re too adorable,” as soon as I saw her. She is a gorgeous puppy,” she remarked.

The trio then left. Before I brought Blue up at the shelter, I didn’t even know who she was, James admitted. Blue would put her head on my shoulder throughout the journey.

They arrived in South Florida after traveling for around 1,300 miles, making a few pit breaks at gas stations and fast food restaurants, swimming in the ocean, and staying the night.

James claimed that the owner’s mother welcomed them inside when they got at the owner’s home. Blue realized where she was right away. “When she rushed up and through the house, everything appeared to be in order. James said that she rolled onto her back.

The owner of Blue arrived home after more than an hour. When Blue first spotted her, she “started bouncing around and was really thrilled,” according to James.

James claimed that they talked about how Blue might have traveled to Michigan.

When they weren’t at home, the dog was kept in a backyard cage, according to Blue’s relatives, and someone kept taking the dog. They think she was taken again or that she managed to escape.

She is an extremely intelligent, wiggly dog. They believe that she found her way close to the freeway and was picked up,” James stated.

After a brief conversation, the owner reportedly told James that she believed it would be best if Blue returned to Michigan.

“She told me, ‘I can’t commit to the dog because I work and go to school full-time. You appear to be decent individuals. Blue likes you a lot. She’s been well cared for by you. stated James.

You folks could have told me this a long time ago, James thought in shock.

James and her brother then reloaded Blue into the vehicle and sped off.

Blue could be seen gazing back at the house and saying, “Wait a minute,” according to James. We told Blue, “It’s going to be OK, we love you. Her turning around to look out the window and back at us broke my heart. I tell myself, “I can’t be sad; this is what’s best for Blue.” I can’t be angry.

James informed the Humane Society that they were all returning to Michigan by phone. She admitted that although she would have loved to take Blue, her home was already rather occupied by her other rescue dogs.

The Humane Society sent a message on FB informing Blue’s supporters of what had happened and announcing that she was now traveling to Michigan and available for adoption while James, her brother, and Blue were back on the road, making further pit stops and hotel stays.

She was unaware of the influx of adoption queries that were coming into the shelter as James was driving.

A man who had been given the go-ahead to adopt Blue sped over to see her two hours after James returned to the Humane Society.

“I was seeking a different dog. Six months ago, I had to put my pit bull to sleep, Robert Allison told The Dodo. “When my cousin called, she inquired about the dog. I responded, “No.

After Allison read about Blue, got in touch with the shelter and submitted an application, they invited him over.

“I called my employer and requested permission to use my lunch break. Have you heard the tale of this dog, I asked? She did, my supervisor said,” he claimed. She allowed me to take the time, too.

Once he met Blue, it became obvious that they were a good match. Allison added, “I walked up and she leaped on me. She “took directly to me” without a doubt.

The day Blue returned to the shelter, he adopted her and took her home.

According to Allison, Blue genuinely cares about his son and fits in well. She gets up on the couch every day and licks me to death, he added.

And until this past week did James get to see Blue again.

James claimed the dog recalled her completely.

She is overjoyed. Blue has a good home and her story ends happily, but it wasn’t the conclusion she had in mind when she set out from Michigan for Florida.

Really, I’d do it all over again for a different puppy. But perhaps the situation will be much better the next time,” she remarked.
